Tamamo no Mae temple

Tamamo no Mae is one of the most famous kitsune in Japanese mythology. A nine-tailed magical fox, she is also one of the most powerful yōkai that has ever lived. Her magical abilities were matched only by her trickiness and lust for power.

This temple was built to keep Tamamo no Mae at bay. To do that they put the sword of Tomoe-gozen near Tamamo no Mae shrine. Every year the Temple gets offerings to keep Tamamo no Mae happy.

Tomoe Gozen was a real historical figure or just a character in the Heike Monogatari, this female samurai was as beautiful as she was badass, and apparently she was quite beautiful. She was a “swordswoman worth a thousand,” and helped lead the general Minamoto no Yoshihara’s armies to victory over the Heike, taking more than a few of the enemy’s heads herself.
